Libby's Story

Have you ever felt like life was passing you by? Like each year blended into the next — and deep down, you knew you wanted something more?

That’s exactly how my friend Libby felt.

Libby is an Aussie born fun loving, energetic and slightly mad 60 year old who loves hiking, rock climbing and adventuring. She was in her mid to late 50s, working as a pastry chef for some of Australia’s most well-known bakeries and patisseries. Every morning, she was up at 2am baking cakes and pastries that delighted countless customers. She loved her craft — but she felt trapped in a routine that left little space for the adventure she craved.

For years, one dream kept tugging at her heart: hitting the open road in a campervan, exploring and climbing in Australia’s hiking regions and enjoying the great outdoors.

Finally, Libby took a leap of faith. She sold her belongings, bought a campervan, and set out to explore Australia. Now she bakes on her own terms, wherever and whenever she feels like it. Who knows if, where and when she will settle down, but she is truly enjoying her life to the full. Maybe one day she will open her own little bakery. But for now you can find Libby and and her beautiful cakes — at the Wenaru Bakehouse in Georgetown, Australia. Or follow libby and her journey  as @eliza_trekker on Instagram.

Her story is a reminder that it’s never too late to reinvent your life.
